Town in Iceland paints 3D zebra crosswalk to slow down speeding cars

In Ísafjörður, a small fishing town in Iceland, an amazing improvement in street security has recently popped up – truly. Another pedestrian crossing has been painted in 3D having one goal in mind and that is too slow down the speeding cars.

Not only does the creative optical illusion give pedestrians the sentiment of walking on air, it likewise gets the attention of drivers, who for sure will slow down the car speed once they see the “floating zebra stripes”. Icelandic environmental chief Ralf Trylla had the idea to do this in Ísafjörður after seeing a similar one in New Delhi, India. With the assistance of street painting organization Vegmálun GÍH, his vision turned into a reality.

Look down to see the 3D “zebra stripes” in action, and let us know if this would be a good idea for your city.
